Product Description Summary and Evaluation Draft #2

The article “Zonar Logs Comprehensive ELD Solution” by Zonar (n.d.) introduces an application called Zonar’s Hours of Service - safeguards drivers well-being while driving on the road. The article mentions that the application is able to aid drivers in terms of notifying them regarding any “pending violations” by sending notifications to the user’s smartphones. These notifications will be sent repetitively at the “30 minutes and 5 minutes” mark before the violation. This eases the users concerns about any traffic violations and payment of fines. In addition, the article mentions that Zonar Logs added a function to “track drive time” where users are able to view data through a protected “web-based application” that is accessible from different workstations with an “Internet-enabled device”, thus, enabling users to constantly stay connected anywhere through the usage of the website. With this function embedded in the system, users are able to view “available hours, updating of duty status” and tracking the travelling time. Due to this customization, Zonar Logs generates an “electronic logbook” which allows the company to go paperless. Therefore, it is evident that Zonar’s Hours of Service application is catering to meet the user’s needs rather than benefitting from its profits. Although other telematics application such as Verizon Connect by Verizon (n.d.) and Transportation Mobility by Trimble (n.d.) offer similar features to Zonar’s Hours of Service, there are several characteristics that make it stand out from competitors.

One attractive feature that gives Zonar Logs a competitive edge would be the “safe driving” feature that ensures the users are safe whilst driving on the roads which was mentioned above. Zonar Logs application ensures that its software is being up to date even if there are any changes in the law, thus, reducing any road violations and risky driving behaviours. Additionally, the feature prevents getting trouble with the law and even aids the law enforcement during their checks as Zonar Log’s application is meant to be easily readable and displayed clearly, in terms of the, “information on hours of service”. Hence, the application concentrates on the bigger picture as it does not only cater to the needs of the current users but a diverse group of users.

Another unique feature of Zonar Logs application is their “Tag Once, Inspect Regularly, Know Always” which is known as a “visual inspection system”. The user carrying out the checking must “scan each tag on the vehicle”. This helps to ensure that a check was done and the vehicle is up to good running conditions, thus, demonstrating that checks are being performed meticulously and regularly. Overall, the system helps users to transfer their findings during regular check-ups and ensuring that the system is updated and ready for usage. As a result, repairs can be easily managed due to the regular checking which boosts the time for vehicles on the road, thus, increasing work productivity and preventing any unforeseen circumstances from happening such as vehicle breakdown.

In conclusion, Zonar’s Hours of Service application provides the latest technology that focuses on tracking, inspection and logging with the user’s satisfaction in mind. Furthermore, it is known that Zonar Log’s “visual inspection system” is the best out of its class. However, what makes Zonar’s Hours of Service application stand out the most would be Zonar Logs attention to the users’ safety which shows how much the company cares for its users.

Self-introduction

Subject: Self-introduction Dear Professor Brad Blackstone, My name is Musfirah Binte Latiff and the purpose of this letter is to introduce myself as a student - technical communication class. I am currently pursuing a degree in telematics (intelligent transportation systems engineering) at Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT). I recently graduated from Temasek Polytechnic (TP) with a diploma in infocomm and network engineering along with a certificate in psychology. My interest was piqued in programming when I was reading the programme overview of my previous diploma course as it was something foreign. During the three years of study in TP, the main take away was having to realize that programming was more than just a desk job, as communication with users are crucial to ensure that project requirements are met. Furthermore, after graduating I felt that Singapore was moving ahead in technology and engineering, thus, I decided to pursue a degree that had a mixture of both ...

Final Reflection

My learning experience in this module was a fast and progressive one as there were lots of assignments given weekly, thus, the learning process was rapid. However, the knowledge handed was useful as I was able to make use of them in my writing. From the product summary to the technical report writing, I was able to gradually build up what I have learned such as the paraphrasing and referencing. In addition, the peer reviews gave me another perspective of my work and identifies the crucial points in which I have missed in my work. Furthermore, I realized that by reading my peers work, I was able to recognise the differences in writing and the approaches which contributed to new ideas in improving my own writing by learning from others. From the showcase I could see the differences between the groups that were presenting and my own. I could have mentioned on how my current product has many problems leading to the low customer satisfaction. I am lacking the impact of how serious t...
